In the Home
Your and your family may find yourselves unprepared for an event, so you will have to improvise methods of dealing with the disaster.

One of these methods of improvisation is to use common items, found in your home.

Don't have a knife? Go to the kitchen drawer and pull out a steak knife.

Don't have warm clothing? Use bath towels to cover your head and body.

Don't have water? Use ...

Hot Water Heater
Depending on where you live, apartment, condo, single family, emergency shelter, or ...', your home will have a water heater that holds anywhere from 20 gallons to 50 gallons of water.

All you need to do to access this water is to shut off the incoming water (to prevent possible contamination), safely turn off the heat source (gas or electric), let the water cool (it can be over 150 °F (66 °C) then drain the water heater into a clean container.

Water Lines
Like your home's water heater, your house has water in its hot and cold water lines that can be used for drinking, by your family during or after an event.

To access this water, the first thing you do is turn off the incoming water supply (to prevent contamination). Next, you need to open the highest water spigot in your home. This might be an upstairs faucet. Next, you open the lowest water valve in your home and allow the water to drain into a clean water container.

Other Places
As some folks might point out, there are other places that you and your family can access water in your home, like the toilet tanks (the big tank on the back of the toilet), for drinking and cooking

But, ...

Don't Use
* Water Beds

* Toilet Bowls

* Swimming Pools

* Fish Tanks

* Vehicle Radiators

More Next Week
When you come back, I have some inormation about finding water in the wild places.

Depending on the Situation
Folks, most disasters are going to be complex, but simple.

The first priority is to be get out (evacuate)

The next priority is going to be breathable air

The next priority is appropriate shelter

Then, ...

Water, Food, Medical Supplies, Protection, and so on.

But, ....

Sometimes, having a charged cellphone is going to be more important than having a firearm ; - )
